I have a question / suggestion but havn't a clue where is the right place to ask it so have 'plumped' for this - apologies if its the wrong place.

Has anyone thought of inviting James Carrington to be a member? I think asking him to submit 3 dolls would be a bit of a cheek so perhaps some kind of honorary membership?

What do you think? Jenny

Hi there Jenny,
We most certainly have definitely thought about it, we are waiting for the membership to up a bit to hopefully catch his interest! We thought the same of offering him an honourary membership too!
You never know as a group we may be able to then ask him to do a workshop! I am not sure how much he would charge but I know he is hosting one for the british polymer clay guild so there is hope! lol

What a good idea of asking Jamie Carrington.... I hope he will be interested.

I will put a little message on my group minis4all, I know there are a lot of members who work in polymer clay and also porcelain and they also hide their skills afraid of showing what they can do.
It ths group limited to only British members? Thought I would ask first before sending the message.

Hazel its for british users for the guild levels at the moment, but if we had enough people interested I dont see why we couldnt open up a branch that would be for international members too. They are always welcome to join in on the novice membership for now which would give them access to the forum but not at the moment to contact pages. Julie would that be ok with you?
I really dont want this guild to be bogged down with rules and regulations that it ends up making people feel excluded at any time! They could then join in with challenges too!

Great idea Hazel, Thank you Very Happy Nicky put that perfectly Very Happy
We want this to be a place where we suppport each other . Where no matter what the level of skill everyone will feel comfortable and although we started this primarily for British Doll makers I hope as it grows there will also be a place for international ones.

Is it OK to put the URL in our signatures when sending out ...it all helps.
Have you let the magazines know? How about asking Miniatura if you can have a 'club' stand...they are usually free to promote the group...no selling allowed at all...no orders or commissions either...but you can show exhibits and hand out cards.
I often speak to Andy Hopwood and I have to get in touch about an ad for my minis4all workshop weekend so I could mention it if you don't mind.

Hazel, I have been compiling a list of sites that are guilds for other countries too we are hoping that in time we can form an afiliation to those, if there are members wishing to learn about guilds offered in their own countries then I am sure we can put them in touch with them.
I think primarily the main pages of the site will be for the British artists only, but they are welcome to join as novices where they will be able to join in on worshops, seminars and the forum.
Hey if its a free space at miniatura that would be worth its weight in gold. We could advertise work done by featured artists of the month and also competition winners, and also people could submit dolls perhaps on a theme to catch peoples attentions. I wonder what they class as a club? If you have any specific info on that Hazel can you post it please!
Julie has been busy approaching the magazines, Mandy has been a huge help there too.
In two weeks the guild has already grown and there are still areas that have to be finalised, but Julie and I are working our way through making sure that we can get the guidelines and other areas up and running, with clear and concise guidelines to members without tying ourselves in knots.
Also we intend this guild to be encouraging and welcoming, and to build up huge resources for learning the craft of doll making both in online form and also in hands on workshops. There is already quite a few members with a wealth of expertise in these fields that are joining.
If things get big enough, then it is hoped that those offering to give workshops could offer this internationally as well as nationally and that the guild would be able to fund this. But small beginnings first!
It is the one reason that so far we have not approached individuals asking for them to join, until we get all areas of the guild set in stone.
Hope that makes sense!
Nicky xx

Great Idea to ask Jamie Carrington to be an honorary member, I'd love to do one of his workshops but I'm told he only does them in the US these days, but you never know.

Are there any plans for the BMDG to have the Logo in a fashion that we could display it on our stands at fairs? I've noticed that the Big Doll shows never include miniaturists for some reason, anyone know the thinking behind this?

Hi Hazel, lovely to see you here too!
regards,
Mary
